Candidates
The ECDL / ICDL certification is available in 148 countries and in 42 languages. As of 2009, ECDL Foundation has issued more than 9 million ECDL / ICDL skills cards.
ECDL Foundation markets the ECDL / ICDL certification program to people who need to demonstrate their full competence in the use of a personal computer and common computer applications and that they know the essential concepts of the Information Technology. Prospective Candidates are expected to have used computers and have seen some of the common software applications before. Programs are available for Candidates with other skill requirements.
ECDL Foundation claims increased productivity and job prospects improvement as one of the benefits of the ECDL / ICDL certification, which is provided by a local Test Center for a fee.

  1. The ECDL / ICDL certification
    According to ECDL Foundation, ECDL / ICDL is a test of practical skills and competencies and consists of seven separate modules covering computer theory and practice. To achieve an ECDL / ICDL certification, the Candidate must successfully pass a test in all seven modules.
    Although it has seven modules, all of them are considered basics. However, it's enough for the daily usage. ECDL / ICDL is a test of practical skills and competencies which is tested over 7 separate modules:
    Concepts of Information Technology
    Using the Computer & Managing files
    Word Processing
    Spreadsheets
    Database
    Presentation
    Information & Communication

There are seven modules:

Basic Concepts of Information Technology
Using the Computer and Managing Files
Word Processing (MS Word)
Spreadsheets (MS Excel)
Database (MS Access)
Presentation (MS PowerPoint)
Information and Communication (Internet and Email)


You will study at your own pace and take the relevant tests at the end of each module.

Open entry. ICDL is suitable for complete beginners through to people wanting a qualification to recognise their existing computer skills.

Qualification Gained
International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL).
This is equivalent to 19 NCEA credits at Level 2. It can also provide 10 credits (Paper 811) towards the New Zealand Certificate in Management.
